Popupsmart vs Wisepops

Both bill on pageviews and put popups on any website from one script, but they sell different things. Wisepops sells a managed program: a strategist from its team audits your traffic, builds the campaigns and tests them against control groups, across popups, web push, an onsite feed and embeds. Popupsmart sells the tool: you build and publish the campaigns yourself, starting on a free plan. Each figure on this page comes from the two companies' own pages, from Popupsmart's 2026 benchmark or from G2's reviewers, with the date it was read.

Choose Popupsmart if…

  • You'll build the campaigns yourself and want to start today, on a free plan
  • Your traffic is under 500,000 pageviews a month and the budget is $39 to $159, not $299 and up
  • You need cookie consent, click-to-call or an autoresponder email, or AI that drafts the popup for you

Choose Wisepops if…

  • You want a strategist to audit your traffic, build the campaigns and review the numbers with you
  • You'll use web push, an onsite feed, embedded forms or AI product recommendations as well as popups
  • You need tests against a control group, SSO or SOC 2, and the budget for $299 a month or more

Popupsmart or Wisepops: which should you choose?

Choose Wisepops if you want its team to plan and run your onsite campaigns as a managed program, with revenue measured against control groups; choose Popupsmart if you'd rather build them yourself, start free, and pay $39 to $159 a month for the traffic Wisepops' Shopify plan covers at $299.

Wisepops does more than popups, and it does it for you. The same script runs web push, an onsite notification feed, embedded forms and, on Shopify, AI product recommendations and AI cart recovery. Before anything goes live its team audits seven days of your traffic, then a strategist builds the first campaigns and tests each one against a control group or a variant. Every plan has every feature. Its integrations page lists 38 email, SMS, CRM and data tools to Popupsmart's 19, larger companies get SSO, SAML and SOC 2, and it has been running since 2013. On G2 it is rated 4.5 from 90 reviews, Popupsmart 4.5 from 141.

Popupsmart's case is price and doing it yourself. Its plans cover 50,000 pageviews for $39 a month and 500,000 for $159; Wisepops' only public price is its Shopify App Store plan, $299 a month for up to 500,000, and off Shopify it quotes after a demo. Its home page puts the managed plan at $499 a month and its pricing page at €599 for up to a million pageviews. Popupsmart starts on a free plan, has cookie consent, click-to-call and an autoresponder email, and its AI popup builder drafts a campaign from a prompt, which Wisepops' own comparison leaves to your strategist.

A word on who wrote this. I founded Popupsmart in 2018, after five years of growth consulting at Flatart, the agency I started in 2013, so I'm not a neutral judge here, and I've made the page checkable instead. Every Wisepops fact is from wisepops.com or its Shopify App Store listing, read on 26 Sep 2026; where its own pages disagree, as they do on the starting price, both figures are printed. Wisepops' comparison page says Popupsmart's reviewers report instability and slow support, so we had every G2 review of both products read and counted, and the reviews section shows what they say about each.

How the two differ

Popupsmart

Popupsmart is a self-serve popup builder: you build, target and publish the campaigns, and the plans differ by traffic, websites, analytics and A/B testing.

The free plan carries 5,000 pageviews a month with every targeting rule and campaign type, one popup live at a time and Popupsmart branding. Paid plans run from $39 a month for 50,000 pageviews on three websites to $159 for 500,000 on unlimited websites, a sixth less on annual billing. They add unlimited popups, analytics and Smart Mode, which picks the audience with AI; A/B testing starts on the Advanced plan. On Shopify it targets by cart value, contents and purchase history, creates a unique discount code for each visitor and reports the revenue its popups drive.

Wisepops

Wisepops sells a managed traffic program: an audit, a strategist who builds and tests the campaigns, and every feature on every plan.

Off Shopify there is no self-serve sign-up: you book a demo, add the script, and a 14-day free trial opens; on day 7 a strategist presents an audit of your traffic with five recommended campaigns, and the first ones go live in week two. Its pricing FAQ says plans start at €599 a month for up to a million pageviews, quoted in dollars or euros; its home page says the high-touch plan starts at $499, with two months free on annual billing. On the Shopify App Store it sells one self-serve plan, $299 a month or $2,990 a year for up to 500,000 pageviews. Beyond popups and bars it runs web push, an onsite feed and embeds, and tests campaigns against control groups.

Wisepops' bars are its Shopify App Store plan, the only one it prices by pageviews in public; its own site has no self-serve prices and quotes after a demo. The two Wisepops pages that name a starting price disagree: its pricing FAQ says €599 a month for up to a million pageviews, its home page $499 for the high-touch plan, so both are shown.

Reviewers praise how easy Wisepops is to use above everything else, then how quickly campaigns go live without developers; after that come its support, its targeting and the leads and sales it brings in. Almost a quarter name nothing they dislike. The complaints are about design options and templates, missing features, integration gaps, the price as traffic grows and plans billed by pageviews rather than popup displays, reporting and conversion-tracking detail, and a learning curve. Almost all of these reviews were written between 2024 and 2026, in similar numbers each year.

Reviewers most often praise how easy Popupsmart is to use and to set up without a developer, then its design options, its targeting and the leads it brings. Their complaints centre on limits: design options they would like wider, the free plan and pageview caps, the price step from free to paid, missing features and reporting depth.

Popupsmart

How we made this comparison

Written from experience

We have built and sold Popupsmart, a popup builder, since 2018. That tells us what decides a purchase in this category: how a tool bills, what its free plan holds back, where it sends a lead, and what its users say. Those are the rows on this page.

It also makes Popupsmart one of the two products compared here. So nothing on the page rests on our word alone: every figure comes with its source and the date we read it.

Written by Emre Elbeyoğlu, Founder & CEO of Popupsmart.

The companies' own pages

Wisepops's plans and features were read live from wisepops.com on 26 Sep 2026, from a US location, as a buyer sees them: its pricing page, its Shopify App Store listing, its FAQ, its integrations page, its own comparison with Popupsmart and its home page.

Popupsmart's figures come from our pricing page and our help center. A feature a company's own pages don't list shows as "Not listed", not as missing.

G2's reviews

On 26 Sep 2026 we collected every review of both products on G2: all 90 of Wisepops's and all 141 of Popupsmart's. An AI assistant read each one in full and sorted what it praises and criticises into themes, counting a review once per theme. No person has checked every tag. The ratings and review counts are G2's.

The quotes are verbatim, checked word for word against G2, and each links to its review with the labels G2 gives it: organic or invited, incentivized or not. Reviews reach G2 in different ways, so each product's source line says how many are which, and when they were written.

We re-read the companies' pages and G2 at least every 90 days, and the dates on this page move when we do. If a figure here is out of date, tell us through our contact page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Popupsmart and Wisepops?
Wisepops sells a managed program: its team audits your traffic, a strategist builds the campaigns and tests them against control groups, and the platform runs web push, an onsite feed and embeds as well as popups. Popupsmart is a self-serve popup builder: you build and publish the campaigns yourself, starting on a free plan, with paid plans from $39 a month. Both bill on pageviews and install with one script on any website.
How much does Wisepops cost?
On the Shopify App Store, $299 a month or $2,990 a year for up to 500,000 pageviews, with a 14-day free trial. On its own site Wisepops shows no self-serve prices: its pricing FAQ says plans start at €599 a month for up to a million pageviews, quoted in dollars or euros, and its home page says the high-touch plan, with the audit, a dedicated strategist and monthly reviews, starts at $499. Both pages were read on 26 Sep 2026.
Is Popupsmart cheaper than Wisepops?
Yes, at every traffic level both publish a price for. Popupsmart costs $39 a month for 50,000 pageviews, $69 for 100,000, $99 for 250,000 and $159 for 500,000; Wisepops' Shopify plan costs $299 a month for up to 500,000. The difference buys a service: Wisepops' price includes its team's audit and strategist on the managed plans, and Popupsmart's doesn't.
Does Wisepops have a free plan?
No. It has a 14-day free trial: on Shopify you start it from the App Store, elsewhere it opens after a demo and the script install. Popupsmart has a free plan with 5,000 pageviews a month, every campaign type and targeting rule, one popup live at a time and Popupsmart branding.
What does a Wisepops strategist do?
By Wisepops' own account, the strategist presents an audit of seven days of your traffic, with five recommended campaigns and an estimate of what each could add, then the team builds the first campaigns and runs each against a control group or a variant; the first go live in week two and a business review follows at month three. Its comparison page says larger accounts get a dedicated strategist. Popupsmart has no equivalent: you build the campaigns, with chat support on paid plans.
Which one has more integrations?
Wisepops. Its integrations page lists 38 email, SMS, CRM and data tools, against the 19 destinations in Popupsmart's help center, and it can target campaigns on Klaviyo segments. Both connect to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Salesforce, ActiveCampaign, Brevo, Customer.io, Drip, SendGrid, Zapier, webhooks and Google Analytics. Only Popupsmart lists MailerLite, EmailOctopus, Ontraport, Sendy, Sendloop, Make and Meta Pixel; only Wisepops lists Omnisend, Postscript, Yotpo, Iterable, Emarsys, Pipedrive, Segment and 19 more.
Which one is better for a Shopify store?
Wisepops does more for a large store: AI product recommendations, AI cart recovery that predicts abandonment, discount codes applied at checkout, revenue per campaign and tests against a control group, from $299 a month. Popupsmart does the essentials for less: on Shopify it targets by cart value, contents, purchase history and customer tags, creates a unique discount code for each visitor, shows products from a product feed and reports the revenue its popups drive, from a free plan and $39 a month.
What conversion rate can I expect from popups?
Wisepops' FAQ says campaigns using Wisepops average a 4.82% conversion rate. Popupsmart's 2026 benchmark measured the median popup that asks for an email or phone number at 0.83% of its displays, with the top 25% at 1.96% and the top 10% at 3.87% (3,034 popups, January 2024 to September 2026, each with at least 1,000 displays). The two aren't comparable: one is an average, the other a median, and Wisepops doesn't say what it counts as a conversion, where Popupsmart counts only submissions with an email or phone number.
Do reviewers report bugs or slow support with either tool?
Few do, for either tool. We had every G2 review of both products read and tagged: bugs come up in 6 of Wisepops' 90 reviews and 11 of Popupsmart's 141, slow support in 5 and 3, page speed in 1 and 4, and installation trouble in none and 6. Counts this small don't show either tool to be more reliable than the other. The complaints that recur are elsewhere: design options and missing features for both, integration gaps and billing by pageviews for Wisepops, plan limits for Popupsmart.
How do G2 reviewers rate Popupsmart and Wisepops?
On 26 Sep 2026, Wisepops was rated 4.5 from 90 reviews and Popupsmart 4.5 from 141. Both sets praise ease of use first. Wisepops' reviewers then credit quick setup, its support and its targeting; Popupsmart's credit setup without developers and its design options. The two sets reach G2 differently: G2 labels nearly all of Wisepops' reviews organic, and most were written since 2024, while most of Popupsmart's came through its own invitations.
Can I switch from Wisepops to Popupsmart?
Yes. Popupsmart installs with one line of JavaScript on any website, or through its Shopify app or WordPress plugin. Rebuild your best campaign on the free plan first and upgrade once it converts. Connect the same email tool in Popupsmart, and new leads go to the list your Wisepops campaigns fed.
Which one should I choose?
Choose Wisepops if you want a team to audit your traffic and run your campaigns, if you'll use web push, an onsite feed or AI product recommendations, or if you need control-group tests and enterprise security, and the budget is $299 a month or more. Choose Popupsmart if you'll build the campaigns yourself and want to start free, pay $39 to $159 a month, or need cookie consent, click-to-call, an autoresponder email or AI that drafts the popup.
