Brevo popup: build one and connect it to your Brevo list
To add a Brevo popup, use Brevo's own pop-up sign-up form, which Brevo offers only on its Professional and Enterprise plans, or build the popup in Popupsmart and connect it with a Brevo API key. Popupsmart then adds every signup the popup collects to the Brevo contact list you choose.

What the Brevo connection does
The Brevo connection adds everyone who submits your popup to one Brevo contact list, with the fields you choose. You pick the list per campaign and match each popup input to a Brevo contact attribute, so the email address lands in Brevo's email field and any other input in the attribute you pick for it.
The API key is saved once as a connection, and your next campaign picks it from a dropdown. The connection starts switched on and you can pause it at any time.
Popupsmart is not an email marketing platform. It captures contacts and hands them to an email service provider; it does not send campaigns or run drip sequences. Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) keeps sending your emails and automations as before.
Does Brevo have its own pop-up forms?
Yes. Brevo builds pop-up sign-up forms under Marketing → Forms, on the Sign-up tab, after you install Brevo Pop-ups on your website. According to Brevo's guide to creating a pop-up sign-up form, a pop-up can show after a delay or when a visitor is about to leave, on all pages or on up to 20 listed URLs. As of September 2026, Brevo's help center says pop-up forms are only available on the Professional and Enterprise plans, and Brevo's pricing page lists pop-ups among the channels the Professional plan adds.
| Brevo's built-in popup | Popupsmart | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | A website with Brevo Pop-ups installed through Brevo's WordPress plugin, Google Tag Manager or the Brevo tracker (version 2.0 only) | Any website that accepts the Popupsmart embed code, plus a Shopify app and an optional WordPress plugin |
| Triggers and targeting | On page load after a delay, or when the visitor is about to leave; visits before it shows; all pages, up to 20 listed URLs, or all but 20 | Exit intent, scroll, time on page, URL and device targeting |
| Where the leads go | One or more Brevo lists | Brevo, or any of the 19 destinations the help center lists |
| A/B testing | Not documented | From the Advanced plan |
| Price | Professional and Enterprise plans only | Free plan: one website, one live popup, 5,000 pageviews a month; paid plans from $39 a month |
| Setup | Install Brevo Pop-ups, then Create sign-up form → Pop-up | One embed code or the Shopify app, then a Brevo API key |
If you're already on Brevo's Professional or Enterprise plan, its pop-up form sits next to your lists and needs no second tool. Popupsmart earns its install on Brevo's Free, Starter and Standard plans, which don't include pop-up forms, and when the same popups have to run on several websites (3 on the Basic plan, up to unlimited on Expert) or send some leads to a tool other than Brevo.
Before you start
- An active Brevo account.
- A contact list in Brevo. Create one under Contacts → Lists if you haven't already.
- A verified website on your Popupsmart account.
Among people who published a campaign in the 90 days to 16 September 2026, the median time from signup to the first published campaign was 32.5 minutes, and 287 of 332 published within a day, according to Popupsmart's own product data. It covers every platform and tool, so treat it as a guide, not a Brevo promise.
How to create a Brevo pop-up form in Popupsmart
Popupsmart builds the popup in its own editor, with no plugin, developer or code. Build the popup first; the next section connects it to Brevo.
Step 1: Create your account and verify your website
Create your free Popupsmart account and add the website your popup will run on. Verify it with the website verification guide: a campaign only runs on a verified website.
Step 2: Start a campaign with a form
Click New Campaign and pick a template that has a form input element, or add one to the popup in the Customize step. The form is what collects the data Brevo receives.

Newsletter and discount templates are the usual starting points for list growth. Change the copy, colours and button to match your site.
Step 3: Choose who sees it and when
Set the targeting and trigger rules: exit intent, scroll depth, time on page, new or returning visitors, device, location or specific URLs, alone or combined. The targeting options in the help center list every rule. In Popupsmart's 2026 benchmark, popups that wait before appearing convert 0.83% against 0.61% for popups shown the instant the page loads (median campaign), a lean rather than a proven gap, and exit intent shows no statistically reliable advantage.
Step 4: Publish and add the embed code
Connect the popup to Brevo first (next section). Then publish it from the Publish step and paste the Popupsmart embed code into your site once; every campaign you build later runs from the same line. The WordPress popup guide and the Shopify popup guide show where the code goes on those platforms.
Brevo popup types that work well
- Newsletter signup on blog and content pages: the email popup guide.
- A last offer for visitors about to leave: the exit-intent popup recipe.
- Free shipping for an email in a store: the free shipping popup recipe.
How to connect Popupsmart to Brevo
The Brevo connection needs one Brevo API key and one list. You set it up inside the campaign, from the popup's form element.
Add Brevo to your campaign
In the Customize step, click the form input element.

Open the Integration tab and click Add integration.

Find Brevo and click Connect. Under Setup, pick a saved Brevo connection from the dropdown, or add a new Brevo API for your first one.

Where to find your Brevo API key
The key lives on Brevo's SMTP & API page. Log in to Brevo, open the menu under your company name at the top right and choose SMTP & API. In newer Brevo accounts the page sits under Settings in that menu.

Open the API keys tab and click Generate a new API key.

Name the key after what uses it, for example "Popupsmart", and generate it.

Copy the key, then return to Popupsmart. Brevo shows it only once; if you lose it, generate a new one.

Save the connection and choose your list
Name the connection, paste the API key and click Save.

In Details, choose the Brevo list your subscribers should join and click Next.

Match popup fields to Brevo fields
Match each popup input to the Brevo attribute it should fill, then click Save.

The fields on offer depend on the elements in your popup:
- Form field: an input in your popup. If the popup has none, the dropdown shows "No options".
- System field: data Popupsmart records on its own, such as the browser or device of the person who filled in the popup.
- API field: data you pass to the Popupsmart JS API, sent on to Brevo with the rest of the submission.
- Static field: a fixed value you type yourself, handy for tagging where a contact came from, such as "sales" or "exit-intent".
Match the email input to Brevo's email attribute; that is the field Brevo needs to create the contact.
The connection is on by default. Pause or edit it from the three-dot menu, and manage every connection from the Settings section of your Popupsmart dashboard.

Test the connection before you publish
A test submission is the only proof that the Brevo connection works. Publish the campaign to a page you control, fill in the popup with an address you own, then open Contacts in Brevo, find the test contact and check that it joined your list with the attributes you matched. Delete it afterwards so it doesn't skew your numbers.
Does a Brevo popup use double opt-in?
A Brevo popup uses double opt-in only if you set it up. Brevo's own pop-up form lets you choose double, single or no confirmation in the form itself. For contacts that arrive from a form outside Brevo, such as a Popupsmart popup, Brevo runs double opt-in as an automation instead: according to Brevo's guide to double opt-in for forms created outside Brevo, new contacts join a temporary list, Brevo emails them a confirmation link, and confirmed contacts move to your final list.
If you want double opt-in, I'd point the Popupsmart connection at that temporary list and let Brevo's automation move people on. Where your visitors' law asks for explicit consent, add a consent checkbox to the popup's form and match it to a Brevo attribute, so each contact shows what the person agreed to.
Subscribers not reaching Brevo? Check these
- The key is an SMTP key. Generate one on the API keys tab and update the connection.
- Brevo blocked the request's IP address. Brevo can block API calls from IP addresses it doesn't recognise and emails you when it does. Authorise the address under Settings → Security → Authorized IPs in Brevo.
- The API key was deleted or is no longer valid. Generate a new key and paste it into the connection in Settings.
- No list is chosen, or the email input isn't matched. Choose the list again in Details, and match the email input to Brevo's email attribute.
- The connection is paused or the campaign isn't live. Switch the connection back on from the three-dot menu, and check that the campaign is published on a verified website.
Still stuck? Contact Popupsmart support with the campaign name and we'll look at the connection with you.
Brevo popup FAQ
Is Brevo the same as Sendinblue?
Yes. Sendinblue changed its name to Brevo in 2023, so a Sendinblue account is now a Brevo account and the connection in this guide is the one you need.
Where do I find my Brevo API key?
In Brevo, open the menu under your company name at the top right and choose SMTP & API, then open the API keys tab and click Generate a new API key. Brevo shows the key only once, so copy it before you close the window.
The step-by-step version has a screenshot for each click.
Can I create Brevo popups for free?
Yes, with Popupsmart. Brevo's own pop-up forms come only with its Professional and Enterprise plans, while Popupsmart's free plan is permanent, not a trial: one website, one live popup and 5,000 pageviews a month, with Popupsmart branding. The Brevo connection is included on it.
The Popupsmart pricing page compares it with the paid plans.
Can I use Brevo's pop-up form and a Popupsmart popup on the same site?
Yes, but keep them off the same pages so no visitor gets two popups at once. Brevo's pop-up form can be limited to up to 20 URLs, and Popupsmart's URL targeting does the same on its side.
Do Popupsmart's Brevo popups slow down my website?
No. Popupsmart loads through a single asynchronous embed code, so your pages render normally while the popup waits for its trigger.
