How to Create a Klaviyo Popup with Popupsmart
You do not need a plugin, a developer, or a line of code. A working Klaviyo popup takes about ten minutes end to end.
1. Create your free Popupsmart account and add the website your popup will run on. If you have not verified a domain yet, follow the website verification guide first, because the integration will not go live without it.

2. From your dashboard, click “New Campaign” to start building.

3. Pick a ready-made template or start from a blank canvas. Popupsmart ships 56+ conversion-ready themes. For Klaviyo list growth, the newsletter and discount layouts are the usual starting points.

4. In the Customize step, shape the popup to match your brand. Colors, fonts, images, copy, and button styling all edit inline. Make sure your popup contains an email form input, since that is the field Klaviyo will receive.

5. Set your targeting and trigger rules. This is where Popupsmart goes well beyond Klaviyo's native forms. You can combine exit intent, scroll depth, time on page, new versus returning visitors, traffic source, device, geolocation, and specific URLs.

6. Connect the popup to Klaviyo so submissions sync automatically. The full walkthrough is in the next section.
7. Review the Publish step, then paste the Popupsmart embed code into your site once. Every campaign you build afterwards runs from that same single line.

Klaviyo Popup Types That Work Well
- Newsletter signup: the baseline email capture popup, triggered on scroll or time on page.
- Welcome discount: offer a first-order code in exchange for an email; the highest-converting format for ecommerce.
- Exit-intent offer: fires as the cursor leaves the page, recovering visitors who would otherwise bounce.
- Spin-to-win / gamified: trades a game mechanic for an email, effective on high-traffic stores.
- Cart abandonment reminder: triggers on cart value or exit, feeding Klaviyo's abandoned-cart flows.
How to Integrate Popupsmart with Klaviyo
Before you start, make sure you have the following:
- An active Klaviyo account.
- A list created in Klaviyo. Go to Lists and Segments under the Home tab and create one if you have not already. The integration cannot be completed without it.
- A verified website on your Popupsmart account.
1. Sign in to your Popupsmart account and create a new campaign by choosing a ready-made popup template or a blank popup to customize.

2. Click the form input element in the editor. This is what tells Popupsmart which data to collect and pass to Klaviyo.

3. In the Customize step, open the Integration section and click “Add Integration.”

4. Find Klaviyo among the integration options and click “Connect.”

5. If this is your first Klaviyo connection, choose “Add new Klaviyo API.” Once saved, you can reuse the same credentials for any future campaign.
6. Now log in to your Klaviyo account and open “Settings” from the account menu in the lower-left corner of the page.

7. Go to the “API Keys” tab and click “Create Private API Key.”

8. Give the key a name, choose its access level, and define the scopes it needs. Then click “Create.”

9. Click “Copy Key” to copy the private API key, then return to your Popupsmart dashboard.

10. Name your connection, paste the API Key, and click “Save.”

11. In the Details section, choose the Klaviyo list your subscribers should be added to from the dropdown.

12. Finally, match your fields so each popup input maps to the right Klaviyo field, and save.
These fields may change according to the elements you include:
✅ Form Field: Used when your popup contains form elements. If you have not added any, the dropdown will show 'No options.'
✅ System Field: Data Popupsmart collects automatically, for example the browser or device of the visitor who filled in the popup.
✅ API Field: Data you pass to the Popupsmart JS API, forwarded on to Klaviyo with the rest of the submission.
✅ Static Field: A fixed value you define yourself, useful for tagging where a subscriber came from, for example 'newsletter' or 'exit-intent.'
That's it!
Your integration is switched on by default. You can pause or edit it from the three-dot menu whenever you want.

💡 ❗️Note: You can manage all settings and your Klaviyo integration from the Settings section of the Popupsmart dashboard.

Klaviyo Popup FAQ
What is Klaviyo?
Klaviyo is a marketing automation platform built for ecommerce brands, combining email, SMS, and customer data in one place. It is widely used by Shopify, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce stores to run segmented campaigns and automated flows based on purchase and browsing behaviour.
Because Klaviyo prices on the size of your list, the quality of the emails you collect matters as much as the quantity. Popupsmart's targeting options let you decide exactly who sees a signup offer and when.
How do I create a Klaviyo popup?
Create a free Popupsmart account, click New Campaign, and choose a template or blank canvas. Customize the design in the drag-and-drop editor, add an email form input, then set your targeting rules such as exit intent or scroll depth. Connect Klaviyo from the Integration section, publish the campaign, and add the Popupsmart embed code to your website.
The whole process takes about ten minutes and needs no code. The step-by-step version is at the top of this page.
Can I create a Klaviyo popup without using Klaviyo's built-in forms?
Yes. Popupsmart connects directly to your Klaviyo lists through the Klaviyo API, so every subscriber collected by your popup is added to Klaviyo automatically. You design and target the popup in Popupsmart and keep using Klaviyo for your campaigns and flows.
This is the most common reason people pair the two: Klaviyo's native forms cover the basics, while Popupsmart adds exit-intent, scroll depth, cart-value, traffic-source, and returning-visitor targeting on top.
Do I need coding skills to integrate Popupsmart with Klaviyo?
No. The integration only requires a private API key copied from your Klaviyo account and pasted into Popupsmart. There is no plugin to install and no code to write beyond the single Popupsmart embed line on your website.
What do I need before starting the Klaviyo integration?
You need an active Klaviyo account, at least one list created under Lists and Segments in Klaviyo, and a verified website on your Popupsmart account. The integration cannot be completed without an existing Klaviyo list to send subscribers to.
Does the Klaviyo integration work on Shopify stores?
Yes. Popupsmart runs on any platform that accepts an embed code, including Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Wix, Webflow, and Squarespace. The Klaviyo connection works the same way regardless of which platform hosts your store.
Do Popupsmart's Klaviyo popups slow down my website?
No. Popupsmart loads through a single asynchronous embed code, so your pages render normally while your Klaviyo popups run on top of them.
