Popupsmart vs Poptin

Both are self-serve popup builders that go on any website with one script, and both start free. They count differently: Poptin bills by unique visitors a month and Popupsmart by pageviews, so the same site lands on different plans with each. Poptin puts unlimited popups, A/B testing and analytics on every plan and sells email marketing beside them; Popupsmart drafts popups with AI and puts every targeting rule on every plan. Each figure on this page comes from the two companies' own pages, from Popupsmart's 2026 benchmark or from G2's reviewers, with the date it was read.

Popupsmart or Poptin: which should you choose?

Choose Poptin if you want popups and email campaigns from one company, A/B testing and analytics on a free plan, or an integration only it lists; choose Popupsmart if you want AI to draft the popup and pick its audience, every targeting rule on every plan, or three websites on the entry plan. On price neither wins everywhere: Poptin counts visitors and Popupsmart pageviews, so which costs less depends on how many pages your visitors view.

Poptin's plans are generous where Popupsmart's are gated. Its free plan runs unlimited popups with A/B testing, analytics and chat support; Popupsmart's runs one popup at a time, without analytics. Every Poptin plan has unlimited popups and A/B testing, and the entry plan costs $25 a month for 10,000 visitors, or $20 billed yearly. It adds embedded forms and an email tool with campaigns and automations, and its integrations page lists 67 tools to Popupsmart's 19. Its reviewers single out the support: more than half of its G2 reviews praise it. On G2 it is rated 4.8 from 90 reviews, Popupsmart 4.5 from 141.

Popupsmart's case is AI, targeting and websites. Its AI popup builder drafts a whole campaign from a prompt, and Smart Mode, on paid plans, picks who sees it; Poptin's pages list neither. Every targeting rule is on every Popupsmart plan, the free one included: cookie targeting, which Poptin starts on its paid plans, and new or returning visitors and browser language, which Poptin doesn't list. The entry plan covers three websites to Poptin's one, and on Shopify Popupsmart reports the revenue its popups drive. At the 3 pageviews per visitor that Poptin prints beside its prices, Popupsmart costs $39 a month at 50,000 pageviews to Poptin's $59, and $159 at 500,000 to $215; Poptin costs less at 30,000, 100,000, 150,000 and 450,000.

A word on who wrote this. I founded Popupsmart in 2018, after five years of growth consulting at Flatart, the agency I started in 2013, so I'm not a neutral judge here, and I've made the page checkable instead. Every Poptin fact is from poptin.com or its Shopify App Store listing, read on 26 Sep 2026. Its pricing page draws its prices by script, so we clicked through every plan, billing option and Agency step and saved what each one showed. Its pages turn visitors into pageviews at 3, about 3.6 and 5 per visitor; the price bars use the 3 printed beside its prices, and the pricing section says what the other two change.

How the two differ

Popupsmart

Popupsmart is a popup builder billed by pageviews: AI drafts the campaign, every targeting rule is on every plan, and the plans differ by traffic, websites, analytics and A/B testing.

The free plan carries 5,000 pageviews a month with every targeting rule and campaign type, one popup live at a time and Popupsmart branding. Paid plans run from $39 a month for 50,000 pageviews on three websites to $159 for 500,000 on unlimited websites, about a sixth less on annual billing. They add unlimited popups, analytics, custom CSS and Smart Mode, which picks the audience with AI; A/B testing starts on the Advanced plan. The AI popup builder drafts a whole campaign from a prompt. On Shopify it targets by cart value, contents and purchase history, creates a unique discount code for each visitor and reports the revenue its popups drive.

Poptin

Poptin sells popups and forms billed by unique visitors, with an email marketing tool beside them: every plan has unlimited popups, A/B testing and analytics.

Its Free Forever plan covers 1,000 visitors a month on one domain, with unlimited popups, A/B testing, analytics, chat support and Poptin branding; cookie, JavaScript and previous-page targeting start on the paid plans. Basic costs $25 a month for 10,000 visitors on one domain, Pro $59 for 50,000 on four, and Agency $119 for 150,000 on unlimited domains with sub-accounts, scaling to two million visitors; yearly billing takes 20% off. A visitor counts once in 30 days, however many pages they view. Beyond popups it has embedded forms, 60+ templates and autoresponders, and, sold as a bundle priced by email contacts, email campaigns and automations. Its integrations page lists 67 email, CRM and automation tools.

Monthly list prices, billed monthly, as each company's pricing page showed them from a US location on 26 Sep 2026. Popupsmart counts pageviews; Poptin counts unique visitors, each once in 30 days however many pages they view. To put both on one scale, the bars use 3 pageviews per visitor, the figure Poptin prints beside its own prices on its Shopify App Store listing (10,000 visitors, "~30K pageviews"), and price each tier at the smallest plan that covers it. Poptin's comparison with Popupsmart uses 5 per visitor in its text and about 3.6 in its table; at 5, Poptin costs less at every Popupsmart plan limit. Divide your own monthly pageviews by your monthly users to see which figure fits your site.

Reviewers praise how easy Poptin is to use above everything else, then its customer support, which comes up in more than half of the reviews; after that come quick setup without developers, the leads and sales it brings in, and its design options. Over a third name nothing they dislike. The complaints are about a visual editor and settings that take time to learn, missing features such as form fields, an undo button, dark mode and gamified popups, design and template choices, bugs, several of which support fixed quickly, reporting detail, integration gaps, and the price, especially plans counted by site visitors rather than popup views. Most of these reviews were written between 2021 and 2024, the busiest year being 2022; fewer have come in each year since.

Popupsmart

How we made this comparison

Written from experience

We have built and sold Popupsmart, a popup builder, since 2018. That tells us what decides a purchase in this category: how a tool bills, what its free plan holds back, where it sends a lead, and what its users say. Those are the rows on this page.

It also makes Popupsmart one of the two products compared here. So nothing on the page rests on our word alone: every figure comes with its source and the date we read it.

Written by Emre Elbeyoğlu, Founder & CEO of Popupsmart.

The companies' own pages

Poptin's plans and features were read live from poptin.com on 26 Sep 2026, from a US location, as a buyer sees them: its pricing page, its Shopify App Store listing, its features page, its integrations page, its home page and its own comparison with Popupsmart.

Popupsmart's figures come from our pricing page and our help center. A feature a company's own pages don't list shows as "Not listed", not as missing.

G2's reviews

On 26 Sep 2026 we collected every review of both products on G2: all 90 of Poptin's and all 141 of Popupsmart's. An AI assistant read each one in full and sorted what it praises and criticises into themes, counting a review once per theme. No person has checked every tag. The ratings and review counts are G2's.

The quotes are verbatim, checked word for word against G2, and each links to its review with the labels G2 gives it: organic or invited, incentivized or not. Reviews reach G2 in different ways, so each product's source line says how many are which, and when they were written.

We re-read the companies' pages and G2 at least every 90 days, and the dates on this page move when we do. If a figure here is out of date, tell us through our contact page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Popupsmart and Poptin?
Both are self-serve popup builders that install with one script on any website. Poptin bills by unique visitors a month, runs unlimited popups with A/B testing and analytics on every plan, the free one included, and sells an email marketing tool beside them. Popupsmart bills by pageviews, drafts popups with AI, picks the audience with Smart Mode on paid plans, puts every targeting rule on every plan and covers three websites on its entry plan.
How much does Poptin cost?
Its popup plans are billed by unique visitors a month. Free Forever covers 1,000 visitors on one domain. Basic costs $25 a month for 10,000 visitors on one domain, Pro $59 for 50,000 on four domains, and Agency $119 for 150,000 on unlimited domains, with a picker that scales it to two million visitors. Billed yearly, each costs 20% less: $240, $564 and $1,140 a year. Popups bundled with its email marketing are priced separately, by email contacts. These are the prices its pricing page showed from a US location on 26 Sep 2026.
Is Poptin cheaper than Popupsmart?
It depends on how many pages each of your visitors views, because Poptin counts a visitor once a month and Popupsmart counts every pageview. At the 3 pageviews per visitor Poptin prints beside its own prices, Poptin costs less at 30,000 pageviews ($25 against $39), 100,000 ($59 against $69), 150,000 ($59 against $99) and 450,000 ($119 against $159); Popupsmart costs less at 50,000 ($39 against $59), 250,000 ($99 against $119) and 500,000 ($159 against $215). At 5 pageviews per visitor, the figure in Poptin's own comparison with Popupsmart, Poptin costs less at every Popupsmart plan limit, from $25 against $39 at 50,000 to $119 against $159 at 500,000. The fewer pages your visitors view, the further a pageview plan goes.
How many pageviews is a Poptin visitor?
Poptin counts a unique visitor once every 30 days, however many pages they view. Its own pages convert in three ways. Its Shopify App Store listing puts 10,000 visitors at about 30,000 pageviews and 50,000 at about 150,000: 3 per visitor. Its comparison with Popupsmart says one visitor typically generates 5 pageviews, and the table on the same page puts 50,000 pageviews at about 14,000 visitors, roughly 3.6. Your own figure is in your analytics: divide a month's pageviews by that month's users. That number, not either company's, tells you which plan costs less for your site.
Which free plan gives you more?
It depends on what you need from it. Popupsmart's covers 5,000 pageviews a month on one website, with every targeting rule and campaign type, but one popup live at a time, no analytics or A/B testing, email support and Popupsmart branding. Poptin's covers 1,000 visitors a month on one domain, about 3,000 pageviews by its own Shopify listing, with unlimited popups, A/B testing, analytics, chat support and Poptin branding; cookie, JavaScript and previous-page targeting start on its paid plans.
How many popups and websites does each plan allow?
On Popupsmart you can build as many popups as you like on every plan; the free plan runs one at a time, and paid plans run them all at once. It covers one website on the free plan, three on Basic, five on Advanced, seven on Pro and unlimited on Expert. Poptin runs unlimited popups on every plan, the free one included, on one domain on Free Forever and Basic, four on Pro and unlimited on Agency. Custom CSS is on every paid Popupsmart plan.
Does Poptin do email marketing?
Yes. Beside its popups Poptin sells an email tool with campaigns, automations, segments and a drag-and-drop email builder, bundled with the popups and priced by email contacts. Its popup plans include autoresponders: none on Free Forever, 1,000 on Basic, 5,000 on Pro and 15,000 on Agency, by its Shopify listing. Popupsmart sends no email campaigns. It sends an autoresponder email to new subscribers on every plan, with an email quota from 100 on the free plan to 10,000 on Expert, and passes each lead to your email tool.
Which one has more integrations?
Poptin. Its integrations page lists 67 email, CRM, automation and chat tools, against the 19 destinations in Popupsmart's help center. Both connect to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Salesforce, ActiveCampaign, Customer.io, Drip, SendGrid, MailerLite, EmailOctopus, Sendloop, Zapier, Make and webhooks. Only Popupsmart lists Brevo, Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Ontraport and Sendy; only Poptin lists Omnisend, GetResponse, Constant Contact, AWeber, Kit, Pipedrive, Zoho CRM, Intercom, Slack and 45 more.
Which one is better for a Shopify store?
Both cover what a store needs from a popup, in different ways. Poptin targets by cart, customer tags, login status and order history, recommends products and creates and syncs coupon codes, on Shopify and on Wix, and tracks coupon redemptions; the Shopify App Store rated it 4.9 from 342 reviews on 26 Sep 2026. Popupsmart targets by cart value, contents, purchase history and customer tags, creates a unique discount code for each visitor, shows products from a product feed, and reports the revenue its popups drive, which Poptin's pages don't list.
Do exit-intent popups convert better?
Poptin's Shopify app is called Poptin Exit Popup Email Pop Up, and both tools offer exit intent on every plan. In Popupsmart's 2026 benchmark, exit intent shows no statistically reliable advantage: popups on the most sensitive exit-intent setting converted 1.10% vs 0.78% without exit intent (median campaign), a gap that could be chance. Who sees the popup made a clearer difference: new visitors convert on popups more often than visitors who were on the site in the previous 7 days, and the same popup converts better for new visitors in 75% of campaigns. Popupsmart targets new and returning visitors on every plan; Poptin's pages don't list that rule.
Do reviewers report bugs or slow support with either tool?
Few do. We had every G2 review of both products read and tagged: bugs come up in 6 of Poptin's 90 reviews and 11 of Popupsmart's 141, slow support in 1 and 3, speed in 3 and 4, and installation trouble in 2 and 6. Counts this small don't show either tool to be more reliable. Poptin's support stands out the other way: 52 of its 90 reviews praise it, against 22 of Popupsmart's 141. Poptin's recurring complaints are an editor that takes time to learn, missing features and design options; Popupsmart's are design options, missing features and plan limits.
How do G2 reviewers rate Popupsmart and Poptin?
On 26 Sep 2026, Poptin was rated 4.8 from 90 reviews and Popupsmart 4.5 from 141. Both sets praise ease of use first; Poptin's reviewers then credit its support, and Popupsmart's credit setup without developers. The two sets reached G2 differently: G2 labels nearly nine in ten of Poptin's reviews organic, while most of Popupsmart's came through its own invitations. Most of Poptin's were written between 2021 and 2024, and fewer have come in each year since.
Can I switch from Poptin to Popupsmart?
Yes. Popupsmart installs with one line of JavaScript on any website, or through its Shopify app or WordPress plugin. Rebuild your best poptin on the free plan first and upgrade once it converts. Connect the same email tool in Popupsmart, and new leads go to the list your Poptin forms fed. If you send email campaigns from Poptin, keep them there or move them to your email tool: Popupsmart doesn't send campaigns.
